A reimagined revival of Pippin is bringing a taste of the circus to Broadway, starring Matthew James Thomas as the ambitious prince trying to find his corner of the sky. Broadway.com resident artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson headed to the Music Box Theatre to witness the magic firsthand, then penned a whimsical portrait of Thomas, Patina Miller and the multitalented Pippin company, who fly high on the trapeze, juggle, turn backflips and more. Clockwise from center, the portrait features Thomas as Pippin, Miller as the Leading Player, Andrew Cekala/Ashton Woerz as Theo, Rachel Bay Jones as Catherine, Erik Altemus as Lewis, Charlotte d’Amboise as Fastrada, Terrence Mann as Charles and Andrea Martin as Berthe. Check out Squigs’ colorful take on Pippin, then catch the the Broadway.com Audience Choice Award nominated musical, opening officially on April 25!
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
